Army Sgt. Bowe Robert Bergdahl missed a roll-call on June 30, 2009. Several days later he was listed as captured by the Taliban. Since his capture he has been shown in videos by the Taliban and his parents have received a hand written letter from their son through the Red Cross in April of this year.
The Taliban has proposed a prisoner exchange of five high level Guantanamo Bay detainees in exchange for Bergdahl. This has been rejected by the Obama Administration.
Bergdahl is believed to be held in the Afghanistan Pakistan border region by the Haqqani network, a group affiliated with the Taliban. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment. At the time of his capture he was a Private First Class. He was promotes after his capture to Sgt. Bergdahl, 27, is from Hailey, Idaho.
